Roger Hallas: A Medium Seen Otherwise: Photography and Documentary Film

Friday, October 30, 2015

3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

IU Cinema

In this videotaped lecture, part of the center’s inaugural lecture series, Roger Hallas, an associate professor of English at Syracuse University, talked about how photography may be better used in documentaries at 3 p.m. Oct. 30 at the IU Cinema.

In his lecture, “A Medium Seen Otherwise: Photography and Documentary Film,” Hallas explained how cinematographic strategies with visual images and narration promote a better understanding of photography.

Hallas also led a Brown Bag discussion at 10 a.m. Oct. 30 in the Classroom Office Building 261.

Hallas is author of Reframing Bodies: AIDS, Bearing Witness and the Queer Moving Image, co-editor of The Image and the Witness: Trauma, Memory and Visual Culture and co-director of the Syracuse University Human Rights Film Festival. In 2011, he was named a Judith Greenberg Seinfeld Distinguished Faculty Fellow.
